A sign-up sheet without the clipboard
The paper roster on the canteen wall works right up until it doesn't: it lives in one spot, the same three families sign every column, and by Thursday nobody can remember whether Grill 9–11 is covered. This is that sheet, online. You set the shifts once, share a link, and volunteers put their own name down from wherever they are — the school pickup line, the group chat, the couch. When a shift is full, it's full. No double-ups, no chasing.
Built for the coordinator who has enough on
If you've ended up running the roster for the fete or the sizzle, you did not sign up for a spreadsheet and thirty reply-all emails. There are no accounts — not for you, not for the volunteers. You get two links: a share link for the group, and a private coordinator link that can remove a name or delete the roster. When the day comes, hit Print for the fridge or the marquee wall, or Download CSV to keep a copy. That's the whole tool.
How it works
1. Set the shifts
One per line, with how many people each needs — Grill 9-11am x3 means three spots on the grill for that slot. The defaults suit a sausage sizzle; edit them for a canteen, a fete stall, a working bee, or a whole day of them. No xN on a line? It gets two spots. Up to twenty shifts, up to thirty spots each.
2. Share the link
Paste the share link into the class group, the club chat, the email. There's a ready-made message waiting on your coordinator page. Bookmark the coordinator link — there are no accounts, so that link is the only key.
3. Watch it fill in
Volunteers tap an open spot, type their name and an optional note (a phone number, "can bring the urn"), done. Each shift shows a running count and gets a tick when it's fully staffed. Changed plans? Everyone can take their own name back off, which reopens the spot on the spot.
FAQ
Is it actually free?
Yes. No account, no trial, no card, no catch. It's a small tool run for the love of it, not a platform.
Do volunteers need an account?
No. They tap the link, tap an open shift, type their name, done. Their browser quietly remembers which spots are theirs so they can undo their own.
Can someone drop out?
Yes. Each volunteer's own spot has a "can't make it?" button that takes their name off and reopens the shift. You can also remove any name from the coordinator page if someone lets you know instead.
Can I print it?
Yes — the coordinator page has a Print button that lays out just the roster, no buttons or chrome, ready for the fridge or the canteen wall. There's a Download CSV button too, for a spreadsheet copy.
